In a blog published on his new website today, John Prescott details the reasons behind his move to stand for the role of Labour Party Treasurer. He emphasises four ‘key aims’ that the Labour Party should implement:
“To proudly defend the record of the Labour Government
To promote Labour’s progressive policies
To actively encourage greater participation in the Labour Party
To hold the Lib-Con coalition effectively to account”
He continues:
“When I stood for Deputy Leader 21 years ago, I said the politics of organisation was just as important as the politics of ideas. It’s as relevant today as it was then.
“That’s why I’ve been persuaded by members to play an active role in rebuilding Labour by standing to become the Treasurer of the Labour Party.
“I intend to work closely with the Leader and the General Secretary to help put Labour on a stable financial footing, build a mass membership party with the active support and engagement of unions and affiliated organisations and to champion traditional campaigning in a modern setting.”
