PMQs Live blog: June 9th

By Alex Smith / @alexsmith1982

UPDATE: David Cameron confirms that “the flag of St George will fly above Downing Street for the duration of the World Cup.” Nice touch.

UPDATE: As PMQs continues, behind the scenes Labour MPs are busily submitting their nominations for the party leadership. James Macintyre reports that Diane Abbott will definitely make the required 33 nominations.

UPDATE: Harriet Harman starts by asking about whether now is the time for the government to look again at gun laws. David Cameron responds that there will be no knee-jerk reactions, but that the Home Office will look again at the laws.

She also asks about whether redrawing constituency boundaries should be a priority over registering new voters: “doesn’t he understand that he can’t make equal constituencies with an unequal register?” A third of black people, Harman says, and half of young people are not on the register.

UPDATE: Denis MacShane has just nominated Diane Abbott. Some of Miliband’s other supporters who have not yet nominated are expected to do the same.

House
The House is seated after a minute’s silence to mark the tragic shootings in Cumbria.

I’m going to try an experiment today, a liveblog for PMQs.

To begin, there’s going to be a minute’s silence in the House to mark the sad events from Cumbria last week.

Tom Harris has already tweeted that he won’t be tweeting from PMQs today as “I’m hoping to be called. But I’m not on the order paper so probably won’t be.”
