The week in Westminster begins with Ed Miliband’s monthly press conference, where he and Ed Balls will be outlining Labour’s economic vision ahead of next week’s budget. The event is set to focus on youth unemployment, the construction industry and petrol prices, as Labour seeks to put forward a popular alternative to the government. LabourList will be reporting from today’s press conference, so stay tuned later this morning.
Elsewhere today there are increasing signs of Lib Dem MPs developing something aproaching a backbone – lets hope it’s for real, and not just for show. After Lib Dem members opposed government health reforms at the weekend, Nick Clegg is now said to be meeting the PM to discuss changes to the bill. In addition, the Daily Mail reports that Lib Dem ministers are trying to block “onerous new maternity leave rights”. We haven’t said this for a while, but bravo Lib Dem ministers…
And finally for this morning – Labour’s newest MP Dan Jarvis has written a diary of his first week as an MP for the Mirror. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be a new MP, this is a worthwhile read.
