After Thursday’s local elections Labour are now the largest party in Birmingham, with 55 of the 120 seats on the council. It’s looking increasingly likely that at next year’s elections the party will cross the 60 seat barrier and be the largest party on the council. Yet Labour have already made overtures to the Lib Dems recently in a bid to break their coalition with the Tories in the second city, and allow a Labour/Lib Dem coalition to be formed.
Those overtures have been rejected in disgusting and disrespectful fashion by the Lib Dems.
According to the Birmingham Post, the Birmingham Lib Dem leader rejected the offer, saying:
“If we were to jump into bed with Labour it would be a bit like Churchill joining forces with Hitler after the war.”
Councillor Paul Tilsley should apologise for his appaling analogy. You can contact him, and ask him to apologise, by emailing him ([email protected]).
We’ll have more on this later today…
