Today – as we’ve previewed already – Ed Miliband will be giving a speech on “The promise of Britain”, but the Prime Minister is also giving a major speech today, as he seeks to relaunch the Big Society…for the fourth time. There’s an interesting broadside from the increasingly bold Tim Montgomerie over at Conservative Home this morning, which argues that it’s Tory crime policies, not the Big Society, that needs a relaunch. The Tory right spent most of the first year of the coalition playing nice (or at least keeping their concerns muted) – now they’re not so quiet.
In the Guardian this morning Jackie Ashley launches a strong defence of Ed Miliband, and suggests that those who would criticise his leadership simply wish his brother had won instead. Surely not? Ashley goes on to argue that Labour’s problem is not with Ed Miliband, but with self-confidence – others need to get stuck in and be more assertive she argues.
And could Chris Huhne be facing one of his own children – as well as his ex-wife – in court? The Sun suggests that one of Huhne’s children could take the stand against him if the now infamous speeding allegations end up being thrashed out in court.
