Earlier on LabourList, Jon Worth told us a little about the new Tory MEP for the East Midlands. However it seems that there’s more to Rupert Matthews – he’s also done some interesting publishing recently.
Matthews is the editorial director of “Bretwalda Books”. You may remember them from Tory conference last week, when they came to prominence after our friends at Political Scrapbook flagged up a pamphlet they had printed, featuring a “golliwog” on the cover. As Scrapbook reported it at the time:
“Former council candidates Bill and Star Etheridge were expelled from the Conservatives in March after they posed with golliwog dolls on Facebook.”
“Having found safe harbour with UKIP, however, Bill Etheridge still makes his presence felt in Manchester with this charming golliwog book, which is also promoted using a picture of Enoch Powell.”
You can’t pose with a golliwog doll and stay a Tory Party member, but you can publish a book with a golliwig on the front and become a Tory MEP…
