Last week’s YouGov poll put Ken Livingstone 2 points ahead of Boris Johnson in the race to be London’s next mayor. And a poll out today suggests that wasn’t a blip – ComRes (who two months ago had Livingstone 8 points behind) now show a 2 point lead for the Labour candidate – 51% to 49%.
It’s still too close to call, but it’s clear where the momentum is, in what is certainly becoming a more compelling contest.
Update: In response to today’s poll, Tessa Jowell said:
“This poll shows that Boris Johnson is increasingly out of touch with Londoners facing a squeeze in their living standards. They know that under Boris Johnson, fares have gone up; violent crime including knife crime and robbery are rising while the numbers of police keeping Londoners safe are being cut. Ken will put Londoners first by cutting bus, tube and train fares and making the streets safer by protecting police services.”
