Shadow cabinet rankings – January 2012

Which shadow cabinet members are most popular with LabourList readers? Our latest shadow cabinet league table sees Andy Burnham top the table, squeezing out Yvette Cooper and Tom Watson in a revised top three. Ed Balls however seems to have suffered a popularity setback this month, as he falls from 4th to 7th. He’s still in the “untouchables” bracket at the top of the table, but now he’s at the bottom end of it. The understated but consistent Hilary Benn is now up to 4th – slowly but surely winning your respect/affection, and two of Labour’s rising stars – Reeves and Umunna – are similarly consolidating their position near the top of Labour’s shadow cabinet tree.

At the other end up the table, Ivan Lewis has overtaken Liam Byrne, with Rosie Winterton making up the bottom three. Although it was quite rightly pointed out to me this week that it’s no surprise that Winterton is a relative unknown quantity to Labour supporters – as she’s the chief whip, that’s actually quite a good thing.
