By now you’ll be familiar with Andrew Mitchell’s foul-mouthed attack on police officers. Embarrasingly for the Tory candidate for Police Commissioner in the West Midlands – Matt Bennett – he shares an office with Andrew Mitchell. So the Labour candidate for PCC in the West Midlands – Bob Jones – popped down to their shared office to send him a latter. The letter went as follows:
Dear Mr Bennett,
I am writing to you to register my horror at the comments that Sutton Coldfield MP and Chief Whip Andrew Mitchell made to police officers guarding Downing Street on Thursday night.
The Tory Chief Whip reportedly told police officers “Best you learn your f***ing place. You don’t run this f***ing government” and “you’re f***ing plebs” all because they wouldn’t let him pedal his bike out of Downing Street.
It is terrible to think a Cabinet Minister could use this sort of disgusting language to police officers simply because they were doing their job. These officers do a hard job under difficult circumstances. It is astonishing to think that a Cabinet Minister could be as disrespectful as Andrew Mitchell was on Thursday evening.
I hope you will join me in publicly condemning Andrew Mitchell’s abuse toward police officers. People across the West Midlands are appalled at the out of touch comments that Andrew Mitchell made. It would be unforgivable if the Conservative candidate for West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner will not join me in standing up for police officers and condemning his comments.
Will you join me in standing up for police officers by publicly condemning Andrew Mitchell’s aggressive and malicious comments?
Yours sincerely,
Cllr Bob Jones
Labour’s West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner candidate
And here’s a picture of Bob dropping off the letter at Mitchell’s office…awkward…:
