6191 Nursing jobs cut since May 2010

He said he wouldn’t cut the NHS – but he’s slashed over 6000 nursing jobs from the health service in just over two years – down to 275,240 from 281,431. Shadow Health Minister Jamie Reed said:

“Despite his election promises David Cameron has cut the NHS budget two years running and turned it upside down with a wasteful and distracting £3 billion reorganisation.

“Over 6,000 nursing jobs have been cut on Cameron’s watch and the cuts are picking up speed, with nearly 700 posts gone in each of the last two months. Patients are paying the price as more people wait longer in A&E and the number of patients left waiting on trolleys in hospital corridors is up by a third.

“What greater sign could there be of a Government that has got its priorities wrong – giving tax breaks to millionaires and P45s to nurses? David Cameron needs to stand up for the right people – patients and staff deserve to be put first. He must stop this assault on the NHS frontline.”
