George Osborne’s arrival on Twitter isn’t going so well

George Osborne – with nothing else on his mind today – decided to set up a Twitter account.

It’s not going so well.

Apart from the customary torrent of abuse (little of which is repeatable here), his first photo has provided much amusement already – spawning its own meme (which appears to have been started by the New Statesman’s Helen Lewis). Here are some of the best efforts:

But it gets worse – one Tweeter appears to suggest Osborne isn’t actually writing anything at all – and that the words on the page are printed in Times New Roman.

Anyone got a magnifying glass to confirm?

Update: A quick glance at who Osborne is following is revealing. Lots of Tory cabinet colleagues – including David Jones, who appears to think same sex couples can’t bring up kids properly – and plenty of people with money. But there’s one account that jumps out. Seemingly George really likes a bit of nature, so he’s following “The Beautiful World” – The most beautiful, crazy, stunning pictures of this earth. Here’s their latest offering:
