The news that shouldn’t be overlooked today – unemployment is up 70,000

Away from the Thatcher funeral, there’s an important piece of news that shouldn’t be overlooked – and which on most days would be leading the news bulletins – unemployment is on the rise:

  • Unemployment rose by 70,000 to 2.56 million
  • Youth unemployment rose by 20,000 to 979,000
  • 900,000 people have been out of work for over a year
  • The unemployment rate rising now stands at 7.9%

The Tories will be relieved that this won’t be today’s top headline…
