Rumours are circulating this afternoon that four councillors from the breakaway “Independent Labour” group in Harrow have been issued with expulsion letters by the Labour Party. Thaya Idaikkadar, Nana Asante, Husain Akhtar, Asad Omar all look likely to be expelled from the party. The hope appears to be that by issuing letters those four, the pressure will mount for the remaining rebels to rejoin the Labour group. In such an eventuality, Labour would have 30 councillors, and would (just) be able to cling onto a majority on the council.
Raj Ray has already returned to the Labour Group, and Harrow Labour are understood to be in contact with other members of the ‘Independent’ Group, who are unhappy at the prospect of the independents working with the Harrow Conservative Group.
This one is going to run and run…
