Where have all the older women gone?
“A shocking 82% of broadcast presenters over the age of 50 are men, new figures have revealed. The research released today by deputy leader of the Labour party, Harriet Harman shows even though the majority of over 50s in the UK are women, the overwhelming majority of TV presenters over that age are men. Harman, who also holds the posts of shadow deputy prime minister and shadow culture secretary, wrote to the six major UK broadcasters; BBC, ITN, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky News, to see how many women they employ on screen, behind the camera and how many of those are over the age of 50.” – Guardian
HS2 in trouble as £3 billion “black hole” is revealed
“Ministers have got their sums wrong and left the controversial high-speed rail scheme with a £3billion funding gap, a report revealed yesterday. Transport bosses have also exaggerated the benefits that the HS2 project will bring to communities in terms of jobs and growth, the damning analysis of the Government’s business case claims. The publication of the report by the National Audit Office has cast serious doubts over the £33billion rail link and provoked a furious row after a senior minister called the economic justification for it ‘ludicrous’.” – Daily Mail
