The Labour Party held an all staff member meeting today at Brewer’s Green to introduce the party’s new campaign team in the wake of last week’s reshuffle. As announced last week, Douglas Alexander is chairing the General Election campaign, with Spencer Livermore (pictured) brought in the run the campaign as Campaign Director, for which he will take the co-ordinating role.
Ed Miliband, Alexander, Livermore and Iain McNicol all spoke to party staff to explain the new reporting lines for the campaign – which is aimed at building on and embracing the shift towards community organising and digital campaigning that has already taken place.
All Executive Directors will report directly to Spencer Livermore for anything which relates to the election campaign – with Livermore splitting him time between Brewer’s Green and the Leader’s office, reporting to General Secretary Iain McNicol and Miliband’s Chief of Staff Tim Livesey. [see update]
A Labour spokesperson refused to be drawn on the party’s campaign structure, telling us:
“We don’t comment on internal meetings.”
Update: I’ve now heard that Livermore will be reporting directly to Douglas Alexander and Ed Miliband, rather than McNicol and Livesey as above. I’ll be seeking to get more clarity on the structure and direction of the campaign in the days and weeks ahead. Stay tuned…
