According to the Observer, David Lammy has confirmed what many have expected for the past three and a half years – since he chose not to stand against ken Livingstone in 2010, instead becoming his campaign Chair – he’s considering running for London Mayor. Whilst on a “study tour” of Chicago, Boston and New York, Lammy told the paper:
“I am thinking seriously about putting my hat into the ring to be Labour candidate for mayor in 2016. London is a great city; however, its economy works for some Londoners but not all of them. It is a tale of two cities, and I see that all the time in my own constituency. Ending that division is what animates me.”
In terms of other potential candidates, the Observer also reports interest from Sadiq Khan, Andrew Adonis, Diane Abbott and Tessa Jowell, with the latter saying that “it is too early” to begin talking about possible mayoral campaigns for a primary that probably won’t happen until late 2015. But it seems that David Lammy disagrees…
