Several newspapers have today picked up on the news that Ed Miliband will be appearing on Desert Island Discs on November 24th. It’s thought that many within Miliband’s team are keen to push the Labour leader towards “soft media” opportunities, but that Miliband is prone to dismissing them as froth. Desert Island Discs has made the cut it seems.
But what will Miliband choose to play for Radio 4 listeners? (The choices from politicians are always picked over endlessly – remember Cameron picking The Smiths?)
There is little risk of Ed Miliband trying to be “cool” with his musical choices – and this list from 2010 produced for Labour Uncut gives some hints as to what might make the final cut.
We understand that two tracks are already near certainties to make it onto Miliband’s final list of 8 – “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond and “Take on me” by Ah-Ha (he revealed that he liked the Norwegian pop-combo back in a Mirror interview in 2011 – suggesting they were one of his favourite bands).
Whilst Desert Island Discs is really about the personal stories rather than the music – we’d not suggest you tune in for the music alone on November 24th…
