The Tories have been happy to attack Labour’s plan to increase the top rate of income tax back to 50p – showing their tin-ear on tax and the super rich. But George Osborne today refused to rule out cutting the top rate of tax again to 40p.
At Treasury Questions, Ed Balls asked Osborne:
“If this Chancellor really believes we are “all in this together” will he stand up at this dispatch box now and rule out another top rate tax cut from the Conservatives in the next Parliament? Come on George, rule it out.”
Osborne was happy to attack Balls but he didn’t answer the question. Why not? Is he planning another tax cut for Britain’s wealthiest?
