Labour must go further on the Economy, Housing and Health – say LabourList readers

The biggest issue in the election will be the economy – and Labour must go much further on its plans for the economy. That’s the message from LabourList readers in our latest weekly survey.

We asked you to select from a range of issues to decide what the biggest policy issue in the General Election campaign will be. The economy/employment was the runaway winner, with 69% of you stating that it would define the 2015 election. By contrast, health and housing – the second and third most popular choices – scored in the region of 9% each (click chart below to enlarge):

We also asked which three issue areas Labour should prioritise and focus on in the run up to the election. Again, the economy and jobs dominated with 65% of our readers arguing that this should be a Labour priority in the year ahead. More than half of LabourList readers (51%) want to see the party go further on housing, and Health was a preferred policy area for 46% of readers. Education (23%) and Workers Rights (22%) both scored well – and more than 10% of readers wanted to see Climate Change, Equality issues and Taxation prioritised. Here’s the chart:

Keep an eye out for more results from the survey later this week, when we’ll be telling you LabourList readers views on the manifesto process, whether they feel like they can – or should – be involved in policy making, and whether Labour supporters want a vote on any potential coalition deal…

834 LabourList readers took part in the first of our weekly survey between Sunday and Tuesday. Thanks to everyone who took part.
