Last week, the think tank IPPR published a report called The Condition of Britain – and Ed Miliband spoke at the launch, setting out plans to shift unemployed young people from Jobseeker’s Allowance and into education or training, with personal allowances determined by means testing.
Emma Burnell feels that the the report “will do a great deal of the serious thinking required to set out a new story of social democracy”, while Sue Marsh warns that we can’t win votes by being tougher than the Tories on welfare, and Amy Lamé reminded us that young people are more than just facts and figures.
But we want to hear what you think of the proposals.
Over the weekend, we reported that Labour were considering reforming the House of Lords – possibly with regional representatives elected by local politicians.
Do you think the Lords needs reforming? What kind of system do you prefer?
Finally, a poll on Monday showed that the race for Labour’s candidate for London Mayor is wide open – but who would be the choice of LabourList readers? Let us know what you think.
The LabourList survey will be open until noon on Thursday and can be taken here.
