Sadiq Khan – who ran Ed Miliband’s leadership campaign in 2010 – was speaking at Unison Labour Link’s conference today, and pledged that there would be a leadership election next year. However – only for the Tories and the Lib Dems. The Shadow Justice Secretary said:
“I want to make two predictions.
Number One. As we get closer to the election the attacks on Ed and on Labour will intensify as the Tories sense their time is up and Cameron gets increasingly desperate to cling to power.
Number Two. There WILL be a Leadership election after the general election. But you’ll only get to vote if you are a Tory or a Lib Dem member. When we unceremoniously boot them out of office after just one term, the Tories and Lib Dems will dump their failed leaders and look for new ones.”
Let’s hope he’s right…
