Weekly Survey: Miliband’s image, public PMQs and a new domestic violence law

have your say ll (long)

Last Friday, Ed Miliband decided to “hang a lantern” on what is supposedly his biggest problem: his image. Mark Ferguson explained the thinking behind the strategy, as well as the risks that Miliband’s team will have considered in their approach. You can read the full speech here.

Do you think this decision paid off? Did it backfire? Or are we underestimating the public by concentrating on something as shallow as appearances?

In an effort to get people more engaged in politics, Miliband has also come out in favour of a new type of Prime Minister’s Questions: one where the PM is grilled on a regular basis by members of the public. Parmjit Dhanda reckons it’s an idea Miliband can build on to create a Parliament that is more deferential to the people.

Will this lead to a greater participation in politics? Or will it have no effect?

At the beginning of the week, Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper announced that a Labour Government would introduce a law that would make violence against women a specific offence.

Do you think this is a good step in dealing with domestic violence? Does it go far enough? Or do you think that current legislation covers the topic well enough? Let us know.

Our Weekly Survey will be open until noon on Thursday. You can vote here.
