When Sayeeda Warsi resigned this morning, she was keen to praise Eric Pickles profusely in her resignation letter. Later today, Isabel Hardman spoke to another Tory Minister, who said:
‘Warsi knows that our failure in Gaza will damage any change of our Northern marginals and South East Lutons and Watfords. The Lib Dems will probably now keep Muslim voters who might have switched over to Labour and got us a gain. I fear Dave might have sown the seeds of our defeat at the General Election.’
Eric Pickles should know more about Northern marginals than most. After all, he was once leader of Bradford Council. Meanwhile, Paul Goodman wrote a piece for ConHome, arguing that “The Warsi problem is of Cameron’s own making”. Guess what happened next?
It’s definitely “the” Eric Pickles too. It’s favourited from his official, Twitter-verified account:
Does Eric Pickles agree with Sayeeda Warsi? Her praise for him and his Twitter behaviour suggest he might do…
Update: How odd – Pickles has now unfavourited Goodman’s piece. He has, however, tweeted twice about Warsi – once calling her a friend, and another praising her work at DCLG. Neither do much to suggest he’s not of a similar mind to his former colleague…
