In a few hours time, we will find out that Scotland has voted against independence – according to LabourList readers, anyway.
77% of those who took our survey this week said they thought that the outcome of today’s referendum would be a No vote. Despite polls have closed in over the past fortnight, our readers are confident that Scots will have chosen to preserve the Union. 23% think that the result will be in favour of Yes.
Only two polls in the past thirteen months have shown Yes leads, although they have both come in the final two weeks of the campaign. However, the polls have settled over the past seven days, with the No lead firm at around four points. It’s fair to say that if this survey had taken place last week, a few more of you may have seen a Yes victory imminent. The London media only really seemed to cover the referendum once there was a possibility that Yes could win, which may have skewed how many viewed it.
If there is one deciding factor that has made Labour supporters feel better, it may have been yesterday Gordon Brown speech at a Labour No rally. A speech so good it has been watched over 200,000 times on Youtube in just over a day.
Find out the rest of the results from the survey tomorrow – and more importantly, find out if readers were correct by following the LabourList referendum liveblog – we will be running all night. We’ll bring you results as soon as they come in, as well as regular updates (and a couple of rumours for good measure) from our sources at the counts. Stick with us!
499 people voted in this week’s survey. Thankyou to all who took part.
