Hello! My name is Naushabah Khan. I’m a keen kickboxer, and I’m on the frontline against UKIP and the Tories. Will you join me?
I’m the Labour candidate in Rochester and Strood. Mark Reckless defected to UKIP — now we’re in a three-way fight with two right-wing parties and the by-election is on 20th November. I really need you in my corner in the next five weeks.
Support has started to flood in already. We’re trying to do something different in this campaign, and we’d love you to be a part of it. Everyone’s welcome: if you want to get rid of the Tories, face down UKIP’s nasty reckless politics or build a better future, you’re on our side.
By-elections are all about volunteering, donations and campaigning, so there are three things you can do right now. Any one of them would be wonderful. Just do what you can.
First: click here to give a small donation. The Tories and UKIP are pouring in cash from rich money men, but we want a campaign that’s funded by the many not just a few. Give whatever you can, and it’ll be doubled — a few generous supporters are excited about our plans, and have stumped up £7,500 to match you pound-for-pound.
Second: sign up now to come and help us talk to voters. We’re less than an hour from London, and we’ll do our best to help you get here. Every day we’re out on the doorstep, talking to people about Medway’s burning issues — from the NHS to failing primary schools and housing. Sign up now if you think you can come, and we’ll be in touch with more details. (We promise you a lovely cup of tea!)
Third: sign my Change.org petition challenging Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt to support Medway Maritime Hospital. Our local hospital is stuck in special measures, stretched beyond belief and starved of funding — it desperately needs help. We’re on the frontline of the NHS crisis too here in North Kent.
I was born and brought up round here, and I know Medway inside out. I was one of the first people in my family to go to university, something only made possible by a Labour government. I believe no matter where you come from, you should be able to achieve your aspirations. And I believe we’re stronger together than apart.
Will you join me in this campaign today? As the team round here have started saying, “together we Khan”… Whether you can give a small donation, turn up to volunteer or just add your support to the petition, you’ll be a part of whatever we achieve. And with energy from right across the movement, I think we could pull off something really exciting.
The new campaign site set up by Labour movement supporters is at www.TogetherWeKhan.org. The Tories and UKIP are showing up in force, and we need all the support we can get. I hope to meet many of you down here in the coming weeks.
