This week our rolling weekly survey question was about the Shadow Cabinet. We asked LabourList readers to choose a number from 1 to 5 (1 being the most negative and 5 being the most positive), to determine how each member of Miliband’s team is performing.
The results this time round don’t show huge changes for anyone in the shadow cabinet since we last asked this survey question.
Andy Burnham remains at the top of the table – with a strong average score of 4.1, the exact same score he came out with when we last did this in January. Yvette Cooper also holds her position in second place with a steady score of 3.5
The rankings get a little more interesting when we come to third place – this was time held by Chuka Umunna, who was on 3.4 last time. But now Umunna shares this place with Jon Cruddas, Sadiq Khan, Hilary Benn, Harriet Harman and Angela Eagle – all of whom (apart from Cruddas who was on 3.2) were on this same score when we asked this question in January.
Andy Burnham | 4.1 |
Yvette Cooper | 3.5 |
Jon Cruddas | 3.3 |
Sadiq Khan | 3.3 |
Chuka Umunna | 3.3 |
Hilary Benn | 3.3 |
Harriet Harman | 3.3 |
Angela Eagle | 3.3 |
Caroline Flint | 3.2 |
Gloria De Piero | 3.1 |
Maria Eagle | 3.1 |
Rachel Reeves | 3.1 |
Mary Creagh | 3.0 |
Douglas Alexander | 2.9 |
Ed Balls | 2.9 |
Liz Kendall | 2.9 |
Chris Leslie | 2.9 |
Lucy Powell | 2.8 |
Michael Dugher | 2.7 |
Vernon Coaker | 2.7 |
Emma Reynolds | 2.7 |
Jon Trickett | 2.6 |
Owen Smith | 2.6 |
Tristram Hunt | 2.6 |
Margaret Curran | 2.5 |
Rosie Winterton | 2.5 |
Ivan Lewis | 2.5 |
Lord Willy Bach | 2.2 |
Down at the other end of the scale, Rosie Winterton, Ivan Lewis and Lord Willy Bach still hold the bottom three positions – most likely because they’re not that well known in comparison to other members of the cabinet.
Tristram Hunt has dropped 0.2 points since last time round – perhaps related to the supposed nun gaffe last week. Ed Balls has seen the same minor drop, while Douglas Alexander has dropped by 0.1
None of these are big fluctuations, suggesting that for the moment most in the Shadow Cabinet are on a even keel.
