Torfaen Labour Party yesterday selected Nick Thomas-Symonds as the candidate for May’s general election. Thomas-Symonds is a barrister who has also written biographies of Clement Attlee and Aneurin Bevan, and lives in north Torfaen.
Current MP Paul Murphy has represented the seat since 1987, and has served as both Wales and Northern Ireland Secretary. He announced his retirement in late January and leaves behind a Labour majority of 9,306.
Thomas-Symonds said it was an “extraordinary privilege” to stand in his home seat.
