At the weekend we reported that there could be some kind of post-debate bounce for Labour because YouGov gave the party a four point lead on Sunday. However, the polls quickly levelled out again to put the parties on more-or-less equal footing.
But YouGov polling for The Times Red Box has found that since his successful appearance on Thursday, attitudes towards Miliband have shifted.
YouGov asked respondents four questions that they also asked seven weeks ago and compared the results. Over this time, they found Miliband’s rating have gone up more than the margin of error in every case. The questions were as follows:
Has or has not made it clear what he stands for? It went up from Net -23 to Net -9.
Has he been a strong or weak leader of his party? This moved from Net -37 to Net -19.
Has he been decisive or indecisive? The Net rating went from-34 to -15.
Would he or would he not be up to the job of Prime Minister? This question saw a shift of Net -36 to Net -10.
Although staying in the minus figures isn’t particularly positive, the jump in the figures is, the pollsters say, “a big and meaningful shift”.
