Which politician do you think has appeared most regularly on the loved and loathed BBC programme? Take a guess.
It’s probably not who you think it is. Clue: rule out Nigel Farage (although he has clocked up quite a number of appearances). It is, in fact, a Labour politician.
The Guardian have done some research on this and found that since the 2010 election, Shadow Minister for Energy and Climate Change, Caroline Flint has appeared the most number of times of the show of all the politicians to take a seat at the table with David Dimbleby.
She’s been on the programme 13 times in the past 5 years .
Hot on Flint’s heels are Douglas Alexander, the Shadow Foreign Secretary and Diane Abbott, the MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington, who have made it on the Thursday night programme 11 times. As did Ukip leader Nigel Farage, Ken Clarke and Grant Shapps/Michael Green. Lib Dem Business secretary Vince Cable is just one short of these three, on 10 appearances.
While Melanie Phillips, the controversial Daily Mail columnist, clocked up the same number of appearances as Andy Burnham, Shadow Health Secretary, and Chuka Umunna, Shadow Business Secretary, at 9.
Before anyone gets too upset and criticises the show of impartiality – the number of Labour and Tory politicians on the show is more-or-less the same.
