Ed Miliband is in Scotland today, and used an appearance at an Asda distribution warehouse in Edinburgh to attack the current Tory campaign – in similar terms to Douglas Alexander’s criticism of the Tory campaign in his latest “state of the race” memo. Here’s the key section from Miliband’s speech:
With just 27 days left what is apparent is that desperation is becoming the hallmark of David Cameron and this Tory campaign.
This week we have seen them defending tax avoiders and descending to personal abuse. Today in further signs of panic, they are announcing billions of pounds of unfunded and unbelievable promises. They can’t explain where the money comes from. They can’t tell us how they will make these promises happen. They simply won’t be believed.
And the result if they were returned to government would be even greater spending cuts, putting the NHS at risk.
The alternative is our better plan, costed and funded. Supporting our young people with a Jobs Guarantee, paid for by making the bankers pay more. Strengthening our NHS by with a mansion tax and money from big tobacco, for more doctors and nurses. And making sure everyone plays by the same rules.
Abolishing non-dom status.
Raising the Minimum Wage to £8.
Banning the exploitation of zero-hours contracts.
Freezing energy prices, so they can only fall and not rise.
