Labour have published a new online attack video this afternoon, tracking the number of times top Tories this weekend refused to rule out cutting the top rate of tax.
Chancellor George Osborne, Treasury Minister Priti Patel, Home Secretary Theresa May and Prime Minister David Cameron all appeared on Sky News over the bank holiday weekend – and all refused to say whether they would cut income tax for top earners.
Labour have pledged not to raise tax for people on the lower or higher rates of income tax, but have said they will increase the rate from 45% to 50% for earnings over £150,000. This rate of tax was lowered by George Osborne during 2012’s “omnishambles” Budget.
Now, in the space of a few short days, top Tories refuse 15 times to say whether they’ll do it again. It seems short, sharp online attack videos are becoming a staple of UK election campaigns.
