Sadiq Khan announces he’s running to be Labour’s London Mayoral candidate

Sadiq Khan has officially announced that he’s running to be Labour’s candidate for London Mayor.

He released the following video on London Live to make this announcement:

Khan has been the MP for Tooting since 2005 and until his resignation from the shadow cabinet on Monday he was Shadow Justice Secretary and Shadow Minister for London.

A former Human Rights Solicitor, under Gordon Brown he was transport minister  and then ran Ed Miliband’s leadership campaign in 2010.

Nominations open today for Labour’s candidate – so far Diane Abbott, MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington, has also announced that she’ll be running. Others who have said they’re going to do the same are Tessa Jowell, David Lammy, and Christian Wolmar – the only non-MP to stand. Gareth Thomas, MP for Harrow West, might also throw his hat into the ring.
