Outspoken comedian and political activist Russell Brand has today said that people should vote and vote Labour. Although he has also endorsed a vote for the Green Party candidate Caroline Lucas in Brighton Pavilion, elsewhere across England and Wales he has urged a vote for Labour, and in Scotland refused to endorse anyone because “you don’t need an English person telling you what to do” – but that he would like to see Ed Miliband become Prime Minister.
He says (from around 11:50 into the video):
“Ed Miliband says if we speak, he will listen. On that basis, we have got to take decisive action to end the danger of the Conservative Party. David Cameron might think I’m a joke, but I don’t think there is anything funny about what the Conservative Party have been doing to this country and we have to stop them.
“So my view is this: if you’re Scottish, you don’t need an English person telling you what to do, you know what you’re gonna be doing; if you’re in Brighton, I think it would be a travesty if we lost the voice of Caroline Lucas in Parliament; but anywhere else, you’ve gotta vote Labour.
“You’ve gotta get the Conservative Party out of government.”
This is quite a journey for a man who just 18 months ago was telling people not to vote. Watch the full video here:
