Labour leadership: Jeremy Corbyn makes it onto the ballot

Jeremy Corbyn has secured his place on the leadership ballot.

Nominations for Labour leader closed at 12.00 today. Candidates needed the backing of 35 MPs to make it through to the next round. This morning Corbyn was the only person out of the four to throw their name into the ring not to have reached this threshold and it was unclear whether he’d be able to secure this level of support.

However, MPs came out to nominate him right up until the 12.00 deadline. With a vocal online campaign from Labour activists calling for Corbyn to remain in the contest, many MPs who nominated him said they did so to ensure that the debate stayed as broad as possible.

It seems that the last person to nominate him was Andrew Smith MP for Oxford East. Others who also came out to back Corbyn in the last half an hour before nominations closed include Jon Cruddas, Gareth Thomas and Margaret Beckett.

This means the Labour leadership contest is a four person race between: Andy Burnham, Yvette Cooper, Jeremy Corbyn and Liz Kendall.

Here’s the full list of who nominated whom:
