Last week Jon Cruddas revealed that he is part of a group of MPs (the rest of whom currently remain anonymous) who are setting up an English Labour party. However, Labour officials said that this is not currently supported by the party.
We do LabourList readers this? Do Labour need an English wing of the party, similar to Scottish and Welsh Labour? Most say no. 53% think that Labour shouldn’t support Cruddas and other MPs’ plans. However 32% are on the other side of the fence, they said ‘yes’ they do think there should be an English Labour party.
16% said that they didn’t know.
There have been rumblings recently from the Labour leadership team that they may be thinking about lending their support to the government’s Communication Data Bill, also known as the Snooper’s Charter. This will give much greater powers to the security services by requiring internet providers and phone companies to keep user’s records. However, a number of MPs and Labour-affiliated union, Unite, are opposed to the Snooper’s Charter.
It seems LabourList readers are too. When asked whether they think Labour should support the Snooper’s Charter, 58% said no in comparison to only 29% who said yes. Meanwhile 13% said they didn’t know.
1,523 people voted in this week’s survey. Thankyou to everyone who took part.
