Liz Kendall has said that it’s “unbelievable” an interviewer at the Mail on Sunday asked her about her weight.
In an article for the paper, political editor Simon Walters compared Kendall’s weight to that of the Duchess of Cambridge, writing she “looks about the same weight as the Duchess – about 8st – though when I ask she slaps me down”.
He also described her as “power-dressing Blairite”, says she has a “lithe figure” and calls her “slinky brunette Liz”. The journalist also commented on where she buys her clothes from.
In response to this Kendall told the BBC she “cannot wait for a world when women are judged the same as men”.
She explained: “I just think it’s unbelievable that in the 21st Century women still get asked such very, very different questions from men.
“Can you imagine the Mail on Sunday asking the weight of the prime minister, George Osborne or any other leading politician?
Kendall is in the running to be Labour’s next leader. She is standing against Andy Burnham, Yvette Cooper and Jeremy Corbyn.
