Comedian and activist Russell Brand has thrown his weight behind Jeremy Corbyn’s bid to become Labour leader. Voting in the election began this week, and Corbyn is the runaway favourite to win the race.
In the latest episode of his YouTube series The Trews (a portmanteau of “true news”), called ‘Who Is Worse For Britain – Blair Or Corbyn?’, Brand extols the virtues of Corbyn’s policy platform, saying:
“It seems to me that Jeremy Corbyn is being vilified and attacked by the media and the establishment simply because he is in public talking out on behalf of ordinary people.”
However, after backing Ed Miliband before the General Election in May, Brand expresses doubts that party politics is the way forward:
“Can party politics ever really enact the will of the people? Can that ever happen again?”
