Last week Jeremy Corbyn argued that the House of Lords should be replaced with a proportionately-represented elected second chamber. We asked LabourList readers what they thought about this.
The vast majority of people are in favour of Corbyn’s proposals; 70% said yes while about 25% said weren’t in favour of this particular idea but wants the Lords reformed in some way.
Only 4% said no and 1% opted for ‘don’t know’.
Although all eyes are focussed on the Labour leadership contest, it’s likely that over the next five years there could be a Conservative equivalent. We asked our readers who out of the potential candidates they thought would pose the biggest threat for Labour.
Chancellor George Osborne came first with 35% – and you can read what LabourList’s Conor Pope thinks of his potential as leader here. A relatively close second is Mayor of London and now MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip Boris Johnson.
Third place with 14% is Sajid Javid, whom Felicity Slater warned about last week, and Home Secretary Theresa May is three points behind him on 11%.
It’s possible that 2015 will go to Cameron’s head and he’ll decide to stay on in the hope of securing another general election victory. But only 7% think that he’d be the biggest threat if he were to do this.
Michael Gove, the man hated by teachers across the country, unsurprisingly comes in low – only 2% chose him.
While Jeremy Hunt, Liam Fox, Nicky Morgan and Amber Rudd all got 1%.
2,151 people voted in this week’s survey. Thankyou to everyone who took part.
