Labour could gain nearly 30 seats and force a series of key losses on Theresa May to leave Britain with a hung parliament, a new poll reveals.
Jeremy Corbyn could add around 28 MPs to Labour’s current total of 229 and deprive the Tories of an overall majority, according to a shock survey published today.
May’s party would fall back from 330 seats at the time parliament was dissolved to 310, well short of overall majority.
If the projection – carried out by YouGov for The Times – was to be replicated on June 8 then it would raise the prospect of another Tory-Lib Dem coalition.
The poll was carried out after May’s humiliation over manifesto plans for a “dementia tax” which prompted a revolt by her MPs and candidates in marginals and then, ultimately, a u-turn.
It is the first constituency-by-constituency estimate of the election result to be carried out by YouGov.
YouGov projects for The Times (actual number of seats at the time of dissolution)
Conservative: 310 seats (330).
Labour: 257 (229)
SNP: 50 (54)
NI: 18 (18)
Lib Dems: 10 (9)
Plaid Cymru: 3 (3)
Greens: 1 (1)
Other: 1 (1)
UKIP: 0 (1)
