The Tories lead over Labour has been cut to just five points, a new poll claims.
The Conservatives could expect 45 per cent support were an election held tomorrow, and Labour 40 per cent. The Lib Dems are on seven per cent, and UKIP just two per cent support.
This comes alongside a drop in approval ratings for Theresa May, who now has a net satisfaction rating of -7, her first negative rating from the pollster IpsosMORI since she became prime minister. Whilst she still rates better than Jeremy Corbyn, who sits on -11, it is a new low for her.
May still leads on who would be the best prime minister, with half of Britons backing her, but Corbyn has edged up 6 points to 35 per cent of the public favouring him to lead the nation. Corbyn has a larger number of young Britons backing him, with 18-34 year olds backing him 57 per cent to May’s 30 per cent, whilst voters over 50 favour the prime minister 67 per cent to Corbyn’s 18 per cent.
