Clear the Lobby: The week ahead in Parliament

The big event of the week is the Heathrow vote on Monday – but that isn’t included here because it’s a motion rather than a bill. It’s scheduled to be a Brexit-free week with a new government bill that aims to tackle violent crime.

No votes scheduled.

Tuesday 26 June

Food Advertising (Protection of Children from Targeting) Bill

Bans the targeting of children in adverts for unhealthy food. Ten minute rule motion presented by Kirstene Hair.

Automated and Electric Vehicles Bill – consideration of Lords amendments

Aims to improve infrastructure for electric vehicles. Among other things, it would set minimum standards for charging points, making sure they are installed at all motorway service stations and large petrol stations, and require information about their whereabouts to be widely available.

Wednesday 27 June

Toilets (Provision and Accessibility) Bill
Requires some public buildings to have toilets which meet the needs of people with disabilities and accessibility requirements. Ten minute rule motion presented by Paula Sherriff.

Offensive Weapons Bill – 2nd reading and money resolution
A wide-ranging government bill to tackle violent crime. Among other things it bans: the possession of some corrosive substances in a public place and their sale to under 18s; the delivery of knives and corrosives bought online to residential addresses; and the possession of some offensive weapons like zombie knives, knuckle-dusters and rapid firing rifles.
