Who’s on top in the latest shadow cabinet rankings?

July 6, 2012 12:43 pm

Andy Burnham has topped the LabourList shadow cabinet rankings for the fifth succesive poll in a row.  Below him there has been some limited movement in the top ten – although membership of that hallowed group appears to be fairly fixed.

This month’s biggest mover is Mary Creagh – who moves up three places – whilst Jim Murphy, Caroline Flint and Stephen Twigg have all dropped two places this month. Yet overall there has been little movement at either end of the table – both top and bottom seem fairly secure, and lower mid-table seems to be where the real action is. Here’s the table:

1 Andy Burnham (-)
2 Yvette Cooper (-)
3 Chuka Umunna (Up 1)
4 Ed Balls (Down 1)
5 Jon Cruddas (-)
6 Hilary Benn (Up 1)
7 Tom Watson (Down 1)
8 Rachel Reeves (-)
9 Douglas Alexander (-)
10 Harriet Harman (-)
11 Angela Eagle (Up 2)
12 Sadiq Khan (-)
13 Jim Murphy (Down 2)
14 Emily Thornberry (-)
15 Maria Eagle (-)
16 Tessa Jowell (Up 1)
17 Liz Kendall (Down 1)
18 Mary Creagh (Up 3)
19 Vernon Coaker (Down 1)
20 Owen Smith (Up 2)
21 Caroline Flint (Down 2)
22 Stephen Twigg (Down 2)
23 Margaret Curran (-)
24 Jon Trickett (Up 1)
25 Michael Dugher (Down 1)
26 Rosie Winterton (-)
27 Ivan Lewis (-)
28 Liam Byrne (-)

Strange performance from Andy Burnham in the leadership elections, then. Nobody really seems to be talking about him as a possible winner, but if he stood, I think he’d probably get my vote.

Byrne and Lewis out at the next reshuffle, I hope.

They won’t go. Ed Miliband is not going to listen to mad lefties who troll LabourList. Ed likes Liam Byrne’s Purple/Blue ideas on welfare.

He likes it so much he put Byrne in charge of the policy review.

        Wait, that’s not quite right…

Let’s hope so, particularly as Ed’s power base is developing nicely. Byrne should be the first out of the door – he can hardly put a coherent sentence together.

    • Mrs Byrne

Where would Ed Miliband be without Liam Byrne’s scorching presence?

  • Dave Postles

     Where’s Giles Fraser?

      Too left wing.

The former canon of St Pauls?

  • Brumanuensis

Can we set up a relegation zone?

  • Mrs Byrne

Liam Byrne has the looks, charm, charisma, oratorical skill, eloquence, conviction, steely resolve, intellect and ideas (pillory minorities) to win a victory for the Labour Party. For the sake of the Labour Party Ed Miliband should step down to allow Liam to step up to the plate. Liam for leader!

If Labour is to build One Nation, it must be a safe and equal one for women

Today End Violence Against Women (EVAW) releases a new report auditing the Government’s progress in acting to prevent violence against women and girls. And with the revelations from Operation Yewtree and group exploitation cases set to roll on for many months , we hope the response from Parliament, policy-makers and the media will be unanimous : that prevention must be at the top of the priority list for any government, of any colour, from now on. On that basis, it’s [...]

This week, amid so much fear, hatred and confusion, let us not forget love

Life can come out and shock you. The events of yesterday are unimaginable. The family of the poor victim are in indescribable pain. Those who knew the men who have done these terrible things will also be suffering. They too are victims of this awful crime. Over the next few days and weeks we will see the best and the worst of humanity. As John Lydon once sang, anger is an energy. Well directed anger is healthy. We should be [...]
