Barnsley Central candidate announced

By Mark Ferguson / @markfergusonuk

Barnsley CLP has met, and selected their favoured candidate from a shortlist of four chosen by a panel of four NEC members. You can see the shortlist here.

The candidate who the CLP have chosen, and who will represent Labour in the upcoming Barnsley Central by-election is Dan Jarvis.

Former soldier Jarvis wasn’t someone who was originally among the frontrunners for the Barnsley Central seat, but in recent days there has been a flurry of interest in him. 38 year old Jarvis spent fifteen years in the parachute regiment, worked as an assistant to a Nato commander in the Balkans and has family in Yorkshire. He was tipped as a dark horse in the final days of the selection, and came through to win the selection tonight.

Congratulations to Dan on his selection, and commiserations to the other shortlisted candidates, who provided a strong shortlist for this safe Labour seat. LabourList will be covering all of the build up to the by-election, as well as election day itself.
