Earlier in the week, Anthony Painter wrote about why General Election night must also be General Election results night. Since then, the campaign to save election night has gained steam across the party divides, with LibDemVoice and others joining the voices of ConservativeHome. Sky’s Adam Boulton has also joined the chorus, and Jack Straw is said to be “inherently sympathetic” to the campaign.
In this era, with 24 hour news and digital communications, there is no real reason why this important part of our democracy, in which everyone can feel involved, should be abandoned. When the decisions have been made and the millions of votes have been cast, it is our desire and our right to know who will represent us as soon as possible. We need to know who are our leaders and who will form our government.
Compare the excitement and anticipation of the video below to the damp squib and anti-climax of this year’s local and European election results, and please join the 3,600 others in the Facebook campaign to Save General Election Night.
