A call for justice

A call for justiceBy Byron Taylor

Our campaign to win justice for the victims of Pleural Plaques has made vital progress in the past few weeks.

At TUC Congress, we overwhelmingly won an emergency motion on Plaques – the whole union movement supported our campaign. And our video about the victims of Plaques has received some fantastic exposure.

Our campaign is continuing to pick up momentum – now we need to pile on the pressure for a final push for justice. The Government are currently making their decision about whether or not to change the law on Plaques – we need to make sure that they know the strength of feeling out there so they do the right thing.

We’ve set up a tool on our website which lets you send an email straight to two of the key players in this issue – Peter Mandelson and Alistair Darling – which calls on them to do the right thing and provide the help that sufferers of Plaques need. Sending your email will take less than 30 seconds – but as thousands of people are involved in this campaign, if everyone acts then together we can make a big difference. Send your message now.

It’s vital that we act together. Tomorrow MPs will be debating a Private Members Bill on Plaques: that’s where Westminster’s focus will lie. Our campaign has won the support of MPs across the country – now we need to make sure that the Government hear our message loud and clear so that they do the right thing. After all, men and women suffer greatly from this disease – and the lack of justice for people with deep, deep scaring of the lungs shames us all.

We have the entire union movemen backing our rallying call for justice – with your help we’ll get our Labour Government to act.

Please take a moment to send a powerful message: we are your supporters, the heart of your movement – and we demand that you stand up for workers with this terrible infliction.

Because this is what a Labour Government should be about.
