We made it! Our campaign to get Against the Odds to be the Labour Party’s next political broadcast has been recognised by Labour HQ and the nation will tonight have the chance to watch some of the party’s greatest achievements, boldly displayed in their living rooms in this new version:
What they will see, and hopefully recognise, is a Labour Party proud of what we’ve done in Government, what we fought for in Opposition and where we have stood on the most important issues that have divided this country for over a century.
This, new Party Political Broadcast (how exciting!) is different. It’s positive and it recognises that politics, despite the last year, is a wonderful tool for change; one which we, as a general public, dismiss at our peril.
What I love about Against the Odds, and why I began this campaign, was the fighting spirit it portrayed and provoked in so many who watched it. I hope that spirit is evident to the many who will now see it. The Labour Party has not given up; those who rely on a Labour government would never forgive us if we had.
I must say, in the least Paltrow-esque way possible, a massive thank you to Alastair Campbell, Kerry McCarthy and John Prescott for help with the campaign and all those at Labour HQ who listened. Fingers crossed it works…because it must.
The video will be shown tonight (Wednesday) at 5:55pm on BBC 2 and at 6:55pm on BBC1 and ITV1.
There’s a Scottish Labour version, too!
