After his wildly successful “No ifs, no buts: give up the bonus” campaign earlier this year, John Prescott has again turned his sights to unjust RBS executive pay.
In February, 30,000 people signed Prescott’s petition and RBS eventually reduced their bonus payouts from £1bn to £175m.
Now, reports suggest the bailed out bank wants to pay £1.5bn in bonuses to investment banking staff, and the board has threatened to quit if the government blocks the move.
Re-launching his campaign, JP said:
“We believe this is totally unacceptable so we’re starting the campaign up again. We the British taxpayers, as the majority shareholder in RBS, believe the Government should make it clear to the board that they must put national interest ahead of personal interest and give up the bonus. If not, the RBS board should resign. So let’s show the bankers who’s boss – again!”
