A new poll for today’s Guardian show the Tories have flatlined on 40% – but that Labour have so far failed to capitalise on the opposition’s indifferent performance, ceding support instead to the Liberal Democrats.
The topline results of the poll are: the Conservatives are on 40%, with no change for three successive ICM polls; Labour are down one point on January 9th’s ICM poll on 29%; and the Lib Dems are up three from 18% to 21%.
The results of this poll, if translated broadly to a general election, would give the Tories a Commons majority of 8, according to the UK Polling Report’s Swing Calculator.
On average, and considering margins of error, polls now suggest the Tories are on roughly 40%, with Labour on roughly 30% and the Lib Dems just below 20%.
