* Andy Coulson is under pressure after it was revealed that a private investigator hired under his editorship of the News of the World broke the law.

* Publicly owned RBS announces losses of £3.6 billion — but is due to pay £1.3 billion in bonuses to staff.

* The Prime Minister has said that the case for assisted dying is less strong than it was in the past due to improvements in care, attracting criticism from right to die campaigners.
