Labour’s first Co-Op Council – 8 in the morning, February 18th

8am

By Alex Smith / @alexsmith1982

* Labour is to revolutionise Lambeth Council as the first John Lewis-style Co-op Council, offering tax rebates to residents in exchange for helping to run services, in a direct challenge to the Conservatives “Budget Council.”

* Hilary Benn has written to David Cameron urging him to drop Tory plans to repeal the ban on fox hunting.

* The Centre for Economic Performance says that the Tory Swedish model for schools would “not make very much difference to the educational status quo”.

* There must be a “decisive shift” in provision of healthcare to the home, Andy Burnham will say today.

* Labour’s cabinet “away day” has come under criticism, as Harriet Harman reportedly held an election meeting with local Labour activists.

* The government is unleashing a tough crackdown on Britain’s super-rich tax exiles.

* Boris Johnson has slashed funding for a series of high-profile multicultural events, at the same time as ploughing £100,000 into a new venture to celebrate America.

* Will Britain see an Obama-style internet campaign?
